Where is the most underrated place in Istanbul
The most beautiful cities in Europe
Tips for city trips and short trips in Europe (top 10 + insider tips)
If you are planning a city trip in Europe you are spoiled for choice: Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna, Budapest or Prague. Europe is exciting and has a lot to offer.
No matter whether you are interested in the top sights, architecture, culture and museums, the nightlife or the regional cuisine on site. Europe is anything but boring. It doesn't matter which city you choose.
For 2-3 years now, the metropolises in Eastern Europe, which are still unknown to us, have become more and more interesting. The "unknown" paired with Eastern Bloc charm makes cities like Sofia, Tallin or Riga more and more popular. Therefore I have you (and me) the Top 10 of the most beautiful cities in Europe put together to show you which cities are worth visiting.
Neither have I yet toured all of these cities. At the end, I'll tell you my insider tips for a city trip in 2018 and 2019.
The most beautiful cities in Europe for a city trip - My current top 10
Rome - antiquity and pleasure!
Rome is a long-runner, but rightly so. Over 6.5 million visit this alone year after year Coliseum. I could travel to Rome again and again because the mixture of culture, cuisine and being active is perfectly possible here.
One of the most beautiful views over Rome is from the Dome of St. Peter's Basilica out. Rome has so many sights and great locations to eat well that you have to visit Rome very often to discover everything.
What do you want to do? OneVisit to the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel, Coliseum, Pantheon or oneculinary tour through Rome (my insider tip)?
Off to the Eternal City!
Copenhagen - love on the 2nd visit
When I first visited Copenhagen, the city hardly had a chance to win my heart. It rained almost continuously. We didn't get to see much other than museums, cafes and a boat tour.
This is the second time I've been to Denmark's capital. Pure sun and summer! Lots of street food, Scandinavian design and great food.
- Tour tip: Food tour with Foodtours.eu (4 hours)
- Grab a bike in the bike capital of Europe!
Edinburgh - Festival Capital of the World!
I only recently discovered Edinburgh for myself. I'm excited! Why was the beauty of this city hidden from me for so long? The capital and second largest city of Scotland is also the most visited city in Great Britain. Did you know that?
Amsterdam - city of canals
Did you know that Amsterdam has more canals than Venice and more bridges than Paris?
Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and has besides that Canal belt with his narrow streets and crooked housesn a variety of interesting Museumsthat do not allow boredom to arise even in bad weather (e.g. Anne Frank House, Rembrandt Museum)
Barcelona - favorite city by the sea
Barcelona has been one of my absolute favorite cities since I was a child. So I have Barcelona a declaration of love composed.
Gaudí's buildings like that Sagrada Familia and the Park Güell, plus the Old town with small Tapas bars and the Location by the sea make Barcelona the top location in Europe. Or?
Stockholm - my 2nd love
Stockholm is called "The beauty of the water" designated. I like cities on the water, so I've been to the Swedish capital four times.
After Barcelona, Stockholm and Berlin are my favorite cities in Europe.
Stroll the crooked cobblestones of the Old town Gamla Stan, discover Scandinavian design in the numerous Boutiques and Shops or do one Boat tour through the archipelago.
If you have a lot of time, do one Day trip to Uppsala. Friends of mine and they too live here Student city is worth a trip!
London always works!
A highlight was definitely our city trip to London in April last year. You can visit this city again and again and discover new things.
Istanbul - where Europe meets Asia!
For me, Istanbul is one of the most fascinating cities in the world.
The city on the Bosporus, which stretches almost endlessly on the European and Asian continent, has already cast a spell on me several times. The city has been voted among the top 3 most popular cities in the world by travelers several times around the world!
With its numerous sights such as the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque or the Topkapi Palace there is a lot to discover.
I discover new corners every time I visit! Hardly any visitor does not succumb to the charm of this city.
Budapest - underrated pearl on the Danube!
Budapest has with his historic castle district, the Castle Hill which lies over the west bank of the Danube and the many great ones Ruin bars immediately found the way into my heart.
Also outside of the city offers the Memento Park a look back at the times of communism with its statues from bygone times. On a bar tour through the well-known ruin bars you can let the evening fade away.
A city that is far too much underestimated for my feeling! Off to Budapest!
Lisbon - Atlantic love
When I was 15, I discovered my love for city trips in Lisbon! At that time, Portugal was not yet part of the EU. It was shabby, poor, and authentic. I liked it just like that. Now everything is "spruced up", gentrified and in many corners there are more Indian than Portuguese restaurants.
I can only make the comparison because part of my family had lived in Cascais (a wonderful place) for 3 years. So I was able to explore the city with locals. I still like Lisbon and I have fond memories of my visits.
The old trams, narrow streets and cozy restaurants on the Tagus. The perfect destination for a city break! It's time for me to travel to Lisbon again!
Insider tips for the most beautiful city in Europe
For 2021 I have decided to visit more cities again. With Glasgow, Edinburgh, Rouen and HelsinI have insider tips for you.
One comes to the tips Weekend in Munich to. Only now have we rediscovered the city for ourselves. Also Zurich is always worth a trip.
Glasgow - street art paradise!
Oh how beautiful is Glasgow! Even if it was very cold when I visited in January. Glasgow, I'll be back! You can find great street art in the former industrial city and largest city in Scotland. Are you going on a road trip in Scotland soon? Then definitely plan two days in Glasgow. You will like it too, I promise!
Paris - perennial favorite and tourist magnet
I know Paris is not an insider tip. But: I've never been to Paris. It should finally be this year, right? Paris, like Rome, has so many sights that you should plan more than a weekend just to see them.
Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Louvre, Montmartre, Champs-Élysées, Galeries Lafayette, Place des Vosges, to name a few. Magnificent boulevards and small alleys surround the city, where you can spend days exploring on foot.
Sofia - my tip
I liked Sofia with its Eastern Bloc charm from the very first minute. Its cafés and the great street art on Tsar Ivan Shishman Strasse are often reminiscent of a Berlin of days gone by. Just great, I absolutely have to travel to Sofia again!
Valencia - more than Barcelona's little sister
Spain's third largest city after Madrid and Barcelona is one of the top destinations in Europe. Art Nouveau palaces and a beautiful old town meet futuristic architecture here. It's not far to the beach and with 300 days of sunshine a year, there is hardly a more beautiful place in Europe to combine a city trip with a detour to the beach.
Ok, the description really sounds like Valencia's nickname "Little Sister of Barcelona". But I think: the city deserves no comparison, it is different and a tip for a short trip!
Belfast - More popular than ever since Game of Thrones
Many did not have the capital of Northern Ireland on their radar at all. Above all, Belfast is experiencing an upswing because Game of Thrones was filmed in the immediate vicinity. The Titanic Museum also attracts many people every day.
The city also has a lot to offer in culinary terms. I also immediately fell in love with the many pubs with live music. You always have to expect rainy weather here. That doesn't matter, because there are many alternatives in bad weather.
