Coolpix L340

Entry into photography with a large zoom, but a weak sensor

The Coolpix L340 from Nikon is aimed at absolute photography beginners and occasional snappers. It is very easy to use and quickly ready for a snapshot. However, if you want to go beyond the automatic, look into the tube: There are no manual settings for aperture and exposure time. For this, the camera offers a 28x zoom, which ensures a high degree of flexibility in the selection of the image section.

Sensor technology is no longer up to date

Technically, however, it is no longer entirely up to date - in particular the CCD sensor technology used is rarely used. Their disadvantages become visible in the form of artifacts and image noise in poor light and higher ISO levels. More modern CMOS sensors, which are already in use in the entry-level segment, usually deliver better results here.

The power supply is provided by four conventional AA batteries or rechargeable batteries. These need plenty of space and sit in the sweeping handle. Thanks to this, the camera can be held comfortably.

The equipment is a bit poor, but the zoom factor is very large. With around 140 EUR on Amazon, the camera belongs to the entry-level segment. If you can do without the high zoom factor, you should take a look at the WX220 from Sony. For roughly the same price, you can get a more modern sensor and more luxurious equipment - even WiFi is on board. Although it only has a 10x zoom, it is also much more handy and much lighter.
