Some Lesser Known Facts About Sanjay Yadav

  • Sanjay Yadav was born in Gorakhpur and grew up in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. He is a professional cricketer who plays cricket for Meghalaya.
  • In 2000, Sanjay's father, Ram Singh Yadav, who was employed as a daily wage painter in Tamil Nadus Hosur, decided to move his family - his wife, 5-year-old Sanjay Yadav and his three siblings - to Hosur.

  • Sanjay played tennis ball cricket at his school and also participated in local cricket tournaments around Chennai.
  • His cricket trainer M. Premnath, who runs a cricket academy called Future India Cricket Academy, spotted him during a cricket game at school and advised him to attend his cricket academy in Hosur. Sanjay went ahead and entered the academy; However, for lack of money, he had to relegate to pay his academy fees. When Premnath couldn't see Sanjay at the academy for a few weeks, he turned to Sanjay and asked him to continue training without paying fees.
  • Sanjay's brother, Sonu Yadav, is also a cricketer and has represented Tamil Nadu on various levels. They even played against each other in various cricket tournaments.
  • Cricket earned Sanjay a seat at Loyola College in Chennai. In his first year, on February 3, 2017, Sanjay made his debut for Tamil Nadu against Kerala in the South Zone Interstate T20 tournament. In the same year he also broke into the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) when he was selected by VB Thiruvallur Veerans. He did some great things in his first TNPL season.
  • Typically, players are selected by the IPL teams based on their performance in world class cricket. However, Sanjay's cricket game was so good that he got a Rs 10 contract with the KKR prior to the 2017 IPL. Unfortunately, he couldn't get a chance to play a match this season, but the experience he gained from practicing with international players exponentially improved his cricket skills.

  • After that, Sanjay played various cricket tournaments in Tamil Nadu; However, he couldn't find a place on Tamil Nadu's premier cricket team as the team was already filled with seasoned spin bowling all-rounders. Seeing this, Sanjay decided to continue his cricket career as a guest player for Meghalaya's cricket team.
  • In December 2019, Sanjay made a dream debut in world class cricket, bagging 9 wickets and scoring 61 runs in his first Ranji Trophy match against Nagaland, followed by 8 wickets in the next match against Puducherry.

  • As the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season ended for Meghalaya, Sanjay finished the 9 games he played with 55 wickets and 603 runs. These were the second best performance stats in the history of the Ranji Trophy.[5]CricTracker
  • Sanjay Yadav single-handedly won games for Meghalaya. In a 20-over game of the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Mumbai, he helped keep the Mumbai squad down to 158 and saved Meghalaya by playing an inning of 55 runs in 44 balls.[6]The Hindu's performance caught the attention of Sunrisers Hyderabad, who later bought it for Rs 20 lakh ahead of the 2020 IPL.
